  • Compressibility: They can be compressed to fill gaps and create a seal under pressure.
    Resistance: Depending on the material, single-layer gaskets can offer resistance to heat, chemicals, and environmental factors.

Applications

1. Automotive:
  •  Used in less critical engine components, such as valve covers, oil pans, and water pumps.
  •  Often found in older or less demanding engine designs.
2. Plumbing:
  • Sealing joints and fittings in water supply and drainage systems.
  •  Used in applications where moderate temperatures and pressures are encountered.
3. Electrical:
  • Providing seals in electrical enclosures to prevent the ingress of dust and moisture.
  • Often used in outdoor or industrial electrical applications.
4. General Industry:
  • Used in machinery, HVAC systems, and other industrial equipment where moderate sealing requirements are needed.
  • Suitable for flanges, pumps, and pipe joints.

Advantages

1. Cost-Effective:
Generally less expensive than multi-layer gaskets due to simpler manufacturing processes and lower material costs.

2. Ease of Installation: Simpler to install and replace compared to more complex gaskets. Often does not require specialized tools or techniques.
3. Wide Material Choice: Available in a variety of materials to suit different applications and environments.

Limitations

1. Performance: Not suitable for high-performance applications involving extreme temperatures, pressures, or aggressive chemicals. Limited durability compared to multi-layer or composite gaskets in demanding environments.
2. Seal Integrity: May not provide as reliable a seal as multi-layer gaskets in applications where surface irregularities or high loads are present.
