Soft gaskets

South Gasket Masters (SGM)

Soft gaskets are sealing components made from pliable materials designed to create a tight seal between two surfaces to prevent leakage of fluids or gases. These materials can include rubber, silicone, foam, cork, graphite, and various polymers. Soft gaskets are widely used in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, plumbing, and manufacturing due to their ability to conform to irregular surfaces and provide effective sealing under different pressure and temperature conditions.

4. Types

Rubber: Common types include natural rubber, nitrile, EPDM (ethylene  propylene diene monomer), and silicone. Rubber gaskets offer good flexibility and resistance to many chemicals.

Foam: Foam gaskets are often used for cushioning and sealing in applications where compression and resilience are required.

Cork: Cork gaskets are typically used in applications requiring moderate sealing and are often combined with rubber to enhance performance.

Graphite: Graphite gaskets are used in high-temperature applications due to their excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance.

Polymer: Various polymers like PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) provide high chemical resistance and are used in demanding environments.

2. Applications

3. Advantages

  • Conformability: Can easily conform to irregular and uneven surfaces, ensuring a tight seal.
  • Versatility: Available in various materials to suit different temperature, pressure, and chemical environments.
  • Ease of Installation: Generally easy to install and replace, contributing to maintenance efficiency.

4. Types

Die-cut Gaskets: Custom-cut shapes for specific applications.

Molded Gaskets: Created through molding processes to fit complex geometries.

Extruded Gaskets :  Produced by extrusion and often used for continuous sealing applications.
